Rowlett Roundup-Issue No. 4

December 19, 2024

Hi everyone,

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! 🎄✨ As we enter the most wonderful time of the year, I hope your days are filled with joy, love, and all the festive magic this season brings.

Last week’s Holiday Main Street Fest and Parade on December 14 was a huge success, with clear skies and plenty of holiday cheer. 🎉

Looking ahead to December 19-26, there’s still plenty of festive fun happening around town—from community events to dazzling light displays.

Note: Some events were canceled this week due to rain, so check updates and dress for the weather!

Looking Ahead: A More Balanced Rowlett Roundup 🎯

This past month, Rowlett Roundup has been filled with family-friendly activities to celebrate the Christmas season, bringing joy and festive fun to the forefront. As we move into January, you can expect a more balanced newsletter, featuring a wider variety of events and other relevant community information. My goal is to keep each issue under 1,500 words—a quick and easy 10-minute read. With all the festive activities this month, it’s been a bit of a challenge!

Thank you for being such an amazing part of this growing Rowlett community. Let’s make this holiday season one to remember. 💙

Warmest wishes,
Kareem

🕰️ A Look Back

From the Archives: The Alston Family Home 🏠

This incredible photo, shared by Mr. Richard Hargrove in the Pioneers of Dallas Facebook group, features the family of John Page and his wife, along with Richard Bennett, John Henry, Travis, Mary Jane, Alton, Beada, and Charlsie. It sparked stories of early life in Rowlett and Pleasant Valley, from family hardships to cherished memories of young marriages and strong community ties.

One commenter shared how Charlcie Dee Alston (1900-1969) and Anna Lee Newman (1904-1972) went on to have three children, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

Do you know where this house used to be? 🏠 Is it Pleasant Valley, Big A? If you have clues or memories to share, drop them in the comment section! Let’s uncover more of Rowlett’s history together.
