โ๏ธ DID YOU KNOW
A Trailblazer's Legacy: Jane Johnson Endsley
Born into slavery around 1848 in Jefferson, Texas, Jane Johnson moved to Rowlett with her husband, Moses Calloway, around 1865. Together, they started as sharecroppers but eventually owned a 100-acre farm in Dallas County. After Moses's death in the late 1880s or early 1890s, Jane took over the management of the farm, demonstrating resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. She later sold the farm, retaining timber rights, and established a successful coal and log business in Dallas, becoming one of the city's prominent businesswomen. Jane was also a community leader, helping to found the Macedonia Baptist Church, which grew into the Good Street Baptist Church, serving thousands. Her legacy is a testament to strength, determination, and community spirit.
Let's honor Jane Johnson Endsley's enduring impact as we continue to build a community rooted in resilience and unity.
